Would you put cold hard cash on yourself to win?
IT'S NOT 'JUST' ABOUT GOLF

Researchers seemed focused, almost to an extreme, on whether the chief explanatory reason behind men's success in business, compared to women, is or is not about GOLF. It's NOT just golf! It's all the things it takes to "play" golf. Take a look.

Where do men spend their money in order to "play" golf? Men buy books and magazines that inform them how to have a better swing in order to perform better on the green.  Women buy magazines in order to buy clothes that make them look good on the course. Men pay for coaches to improve their swing and correct their putt. Women may pay for a coach, but only a few ambitious women focus on their putt as opposed to HIS putt. Men even wager among themselves in competition to incentivize themselves. How many women do you know who would actually put cold hard cash on herself to win?   READ MORE...

VIP MEMBER AND PREVIOUS SIGNATURE EVENT PANELIST

What excites you most about being a VIP Member of WIB?  Being able to contribute to and benefit from connecting with many talented and committed executives through our shared goal of helping organizations succeed though board roles.

As a VIP Member, what WIB service has been of the most value to you in your journey toward a board seat? The personal interest given to each VIP Member by CEO & Founder Sheila Ronning and Board Coach Deb Nelms. This is not a template approach. They first listen to understand each person's goals, and tailor resources, guidance and action plans to advance the members toward their goals efficiently and impactfully. The one-on-one board coaching session with Deb has been extremely helpful for me. Her insight and savvy is very enlightening. She knows what needs to be done and how to do it.

You have recommended us to many of your friends and colleagues. Why?   I have been a fan of Sheila's since I first met her at a WIB event in Milwaukee. I could tell then that she had a unique vision and she spent the time to understand the member needs before she created this program. I want to be part of supporting her mission because of the personal attention I know each VIP Member will receive. There are many options for those pursuing board roles to consider and I find Sheila's approach to be the most direct and focused. I have full confidence that anyone who becomes a VIP Member will receive great value. I also encourage those I refer to help their peers as well.

HOW TO WOO THE IMPORTANT PEOPLE

People often ask how we are able to attract such amazing panelists for our events. I know how they feel. I, too, am thrilled when I meet our speakers, hear their powerful advice and watch them in action.

It's a complex question, but relevant to all women who want to gain a seat in the boardroom. How do you identify the right connections and woo those important people? To start my answer, I'll share my Christie Hefner story.

Christie Hefner, as most will recognize, is the brilliant CEO who transformed her father's Playboy Enterprises into a cutting-edge corporation. In 2006, Women in the Boardroom took our show on the road for the first time. Our debut city: Chicago, home to Ms. Hefner. I had to get her on the panel! READ MORE...
